THC Health Benefits

For many years now there has been a raging dialogue between those who labor for the legalization of marijuana. The main arguments include the fact that the illegality of this substance causes crime and an underground black market and that it is more safe for regular use when it is legal and regulated. Another main argument is the medicinal uses of the substance. This argument has been growing in recent years as many THC health benefits are uncovered by modern medical sciences and laboratory research.

Currently many states have a medically legalization tier for this substance and physicians have the authority to prescribe marijuana for specific conditions. What clinicians have uncovered however is that the active ingredient in marijuana, THC, has many positive health benefits some of which we are only beginning to fully explore and understand.

THC has been well known to have positive anti-inflammatory health benefits. The science tells us that THC triggers the CB2 receptor which is found in bodily tissues and plays a significant role in systemic inflammation. As scientists further explore how THC triggers this receptor while minimizing the negative side affects of THC doctors may be able to isolate the anti-inflammatory benefits and treat diseases of inflammation like Crohn’s disease, liver cirrhosis, osteoarthritis, or even atherosclerosis, which is a main cause of heart disease, the leading cause of death in America.

Additional studies have also found a link between THC and Alzheimer’s disease. The amyloid plaques in the brain which are highly correlated with Alzheimer’s form in an accelerated manner when accompanied by an enzyme called acetylcholinesterase. When THC is present in the body it has been shown by clinicians to inhibit this enzyme and slow the formation of these plaques.

There are many studies which are on the cutting edge of THC research. What is clear is that there are obvious benefits of studying and using THC for medicinal use and with further adoption and societal inclusion many of these benefits can be exploited through additional research and medical practice.
